Google Home Has 12 New Partners

Google Home is getting smarter.

Google is teaming up with 12 new companies making its voice-controlled, AI-powered assistant eminently more useful.

The new partnerships bring new integrations to the Google Home platform, meaning you can give voice commands to control devices from August, Lifx, Wink, Rachio, TP-Link, First Alert, Vivint, Best Buy Insignia, Frigidaire, Anova, Geeni and Logitech Harmony.

When Google Home made its debut last November, it was compatible with only four platforms: Nest, Philips Hue, SmartThings and IFTTT. Since then, Google has also added compatibility with Belkin WeMo lighting products and Honeywell connected thermostats. In December, Google added support for Netflix.

Home, a challenger for Amazon’s AI assistant Echo, is built to be a control center for the home. Much like Amazon’s Echo device, Google Home can perform Internet searches, answer questions and perform tasks like updating your schedule or booking a reservation. The device, which is touch-sensitive, can also be linked to Chromecast and Smart devices and appliances, meaning it can control the temperature in your home, not to mention the Smart fridge and television.

Google Home, which supports both Android and iOS, works over Wi-Fi and boasts high-excursion speakers, far-field microphones and sophisticated natural language processing.

So far, the device is available in the U.S. and is coming to the U.K. next month.
